The year 2025 is the 200th anniversary of the modern railway.
Avon Valley Railway is celebrating this important milestone over the weekend of the 27th / 28th September with a fun-filled programme of family entertainment and an intensive timetable of steam and heritage diesel trains.
We are providing two days full of entertainment, engagement, & education for all ages, with something for everyone on this special weekend.

Intensive timetable of train running, featuring (subject to availability):
- Diesel: Class 31, 31130 – Saturday ONLY
- Diesel: 0-4-0, WD No. 70043 ‘Grumpy’ (Andrew Barclay) – on static display
- Steam: 0-4-0, 7492 (Sentinel) – Saturday ONLY
- Steam: 0-6-2T, GWR 6695, courtesy of 6695 Locomotive Ltd – Saturday AND Sunday
Brake Van Rides will be available on the main service train – places available on the day (subject to availability) with a donation to Avon Valley Railway Trust.

Visitors can enjoy:
- Heritage Bus shuttle between railway stations at Keynsham (overflow car park) and Bitton (Avon Valley Railway) – limited parking on-site at Avon Valley Railway
- Guided Shed Tours – times available on the day / donation to AV Railway Trust (places subject to availability)
- Vintage cars on display
- Face Painters (age 3+, additional charge applies)
- Model railway: “Mangotsfield Railway Junction” (step back in time and visualise how the station looked when trains used to run)

Your ticket grants you full access to our range of entertainment and activities available on site each day, as well as unlimited travel on timetabled heritage trains, with the exception of:
- Face painting (charges apply separately)
- Brake van rides and shed tours (subject to a donation to the Avon Valley Railway Trust)
Booking Information
Seating is unreserved for this weekend, with spaces available for wheelchair users onboard our trains.
Concession prices are available for students and over 60s, with a 50% discount available for AVR members.
Parking
The Avon Valley Railway 200 Celebration Weekend is expected to be very busy, with limited parking available on-site at Bitton Station. Visitors are encouraged to use the FREE Heritage Bus Shuttle between Keynsham Railway Station overflow car park where there is ample parking.
