  • Group & School Visits

Bring your group, club or society and travel back in time to the days of steam on a day out at the Avon Valley Railway.  We’re an ideal location for a group visit and can cater for parties large or small.  We’re in a great location less than an hour from Gloucester, Swindon, Taunton and Cardiff, easily accessible from all routes including the M4, Bristol and Bath.  We provide free coach parking, as well as complimentary meals and travel tickets for the driver.   Make your visit even more special by booking a delicious cream tea served on the train as you travel the line.  Generous discounts are available to groups of 20 or more.

    Boat, Train and Cream Tea

We can also offer a combined ‘Boat, Train and Cream Tea’ ticket with a local ferry operator giving you the chance to sail round Bristol’s historic city-centre Harbourside followed by a trip on the Avon Valley Railway and a cream tea on-board the train.

Your coach/transport takes you to the drop-off point at SS Great Britain car park, where you will be greeted by an Avon Valley Railway host. The boat is only a few yards away with a few small steps down to the moorings where you can board. You can relax as the cruise takes you around the harbour, in the heart of the city, and enjoy the sights and sounds of historic landmarks and modern developments, including the view of Brunel’s great ship the ‘SS Great Britain’ in the original dock where she was built.  The boat has comfortable seating and plenty of room on board  for passengers with limited mobility. Hot and cold drinks are always available for purchase if required.

On your return you’ll transfer to Bitton using your coach (where free coach parking is provided). The steam train is waiting in our country station, and you are escorted to your reserved seats in the period carriages. The guard blows his whistle and the train gently pulls away.  Sit back, relax and enjoy the tranquillity as your waiter offers you some refreshment – two large scones with butter, jam and cream, washed down with a cup of tea or coffee.

A visit of around six hours will provide you with sufficient time to take in all of the above, as well as the opportunity to browse in the souvenir shop or just relax on the station platform, taking in the atmosphere.

The ‘Boat, Train & Cream Tea’ trips are available for groups of 20 or more:

    • Most Sundays and Bank Holidays from Easter to the end of September
    • Wednesdays in June & July
    • Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during School Holidays.
