Frequently asked questions

Here’s some of the common questions we get asked:

DO YOU CHARGE FOR CAR PARKING?
There is no charge for car parking at Bitton Station.

DO I HAVE TO PRE-BOOK MY TICKETS?
You don’t have to pre-book your tickets for our ordinary steam or diesel operating days, but during school holidays and other busy periods is definitely advised. When you arrive, you’ll visit Bitton station ticket office and we’ll issue you the old-fashioned card railway tickets like you would have received if you’d travelled from here back in the 1960s.

Pre-booking is essential for all of our dining trains, footplate rides and Santa Special experiences.

For all online bookings, please visit quaytickets.com/avonvalleyrailway or call 0117 332 0435.

HOW LONG DOES THE TRAIN JOURNEY TAKE?
The journey lasts about fifty minutes. Bitton Station is in the middle of the line. Trains go both ways from here, first to Oldland Common at the northern end of the line, back to Bitton, then south to Avon Riverside. Our line is three miles long, so it’s a six mile round trip.

DO YOU WELCOME DOGS?
Dogs are welcome on the station site and trains on most days. The only exception are our dining trains. We restrict access to dogs on some family events due to the large numbers of children present, some of whom can be scared by dogs.

WHEN IS THE STATION BUFFET OPEN?
The Buffet (station café/restaurant) is open daily –  only closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day…. For current season hours click here

DO YOU TAKE CREDIT CARDS?
We accept all main cards, except American Express. Contactless payment is also available.

WHAT AGE IS A ‘CHILD’?
Child fares are available for children aged between 5 and 15 inclusive.
Children aged 4 and under travel free (except on our Santa Specials).

For full fare information, visit our fares page.

ARE YOU WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?

Yes! Our trains have ramped access into a converted carriage. We also have a disabled toilet Bitton station – this is located in the Buffet.

WHAT FOOD & DRINK DO YOU OFFER?
The Buffet at Bitton Station serves a range of hot & cold food, drinks and snacks. Ice creams are available in the Buffet and in the Gift Shop.

Food & drink is not available on the train except for those on a dining train experience.
