news for the visitor

dmu arrivalA successful start to the season

As we approach the next school holiday we are pleased to report that the Heritage Diesel Railcar operation over the February half term was yet again a success. Despite the cold and wet weather many visitors braved the elements to take a ride and enjoy the scenery from this unusual viewpoint.

Mothering Sunday saw the first steam hauled passenger service for this season – hauling the Steam & Cuisine dining train which always proves popular with those who book a place. As usual with these events all seats available where fully booked.

Easter Services

The Easter holidays are a great time to visit the Avon Valley Railway and this year is no exception. Steam trains will be running every day from Friday 2nd to Thursday 8th April. Why not extend your journey by joining one of our scenic boat trips from the landing stage nearby Avon Riverside? Boats trips will also be running from Friday 2nd to Thursday 8th April.

To add to the festivities the Railway’s Young Members Group have organised a tombola which will be running over the Easter weekend (Friday 2nd to Monday 5th April). There are lots of prizes to be won – from travel tickets on the First Great Western network to admission to many local attractions. The tombola will be open between 11am and 4pm each day.

Day out with Thomas Weekend

Our next Day out with Thomas weekend will be held on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th May. This event will be the only one held this year – so make sure you book early as it is expected to be busy.

For more information about the Day out with Thomas weekend see the event page.
