The Sentinel steam locomotive that once served Fry’s chocolate factory is due to return to its home county this coming weekend.
The locomotive which has been residing in a back garden near Colchester for many years has been tracked down by a retired Fry’s employee, Eric Miles.
The locomotive will be lifted from its current location by crane and transported by lorry to Fry’s Somerdale. It will spend a day at Fry’s factory (Saturday 4th) before moving to Bitton on the Sunday (5th) where it will be restored to working condition over the coming years.
The work will be carried out by the Avon Valley Railway Heritage Trust; if you wish to support the work you can do so by purchasing a copy of Eric Miles's book, 'Somerdale Story 1921-2009', about the history of the factory at Somerdale and its rail system – which is available from the station shop.
