Driver Experience Courses

Was your childhood dream to drive a steam locomotive? Well, here's your chance! We run a series of half and full day courses giving you the chance of a lifetime to realise your dream - to drive and fire a steam locomotive.

Bitton Bistro

Join us for our Two Course Bitton Bistro If you want a meal to remember, look no further than our Bitton Bistro dining trains. Departing at 12:15 on several Sundays throughout the year, this dining experience involves a number of 6-mile round trips, each lasting approximately an hour, a delicious two-course meal and coffee & mints.

Bus Rally

Our annual Vintage Bus Rally provides the visitor with a rare opportunity to see and travel on a number of different forms of heritage transport in one day. Organised jointly by the Avon Valley Railway and the Bristol Vintage Bus Group, the focus of the event will be a static display of vintage buses at the Brislington Park and Ride site, just off the A4 between Bristol and Bath. This will also be the main parking site for visitors on the day, which is free.

Children's Birthday Parties

Give your child a birthday party to remember on one of our trains. We can provide reserved seating for up to 16, 32 or 64 people in one of our 1950s railway carriages on most steam and diesel operating days between Easter and October. Sessions can be booked for either morning (11:00 to 13:15) or afternoon (14:45 to 17:00).

Day out with Thomas

The Avon Valley Railway Proudly Presents       Book Now Come and meet 'Thomas', 'Sir Topham Hatt, The Fat Controller', 'The Troublesome Trucks', 'Toad', 'Daisy' and 'Bulgy the Bus'.

End of Season Gala

Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October 2012   Our 2012 End of Season Gala will take place on the above dates. Once details of the event have been agreed they will be posted here.

Murder mystery

Set within the classic detective genre, you are invited to join us for an evening of mystery and murder. The victim(s) and suspects will gather just before departure on the station platform for an exciting evening aboard the Avon Valley Express.

Real ale festival

2012 Real Ale Festival On Friday 8th and Saturday 9th June we will be hosting our 9th Beer Festival here at the picturesque settings of the Avon Valley Railway. We will be planning to host dozens of ales from our local breweries as well as little further afield.

River trips

We regret that due to circumstances beyond our control there will be NO public boat services until further notice. Our website will be updated as soon as further information is available.

Sherry and Mince Pie Specials

DON'T FORGET! After the indulgence of Christmas Day why not take the family for a relaxing trip on the Avon Valley Railway? Our popular Sherry and Mince Pie Specials will be running on the following dates: 26th and 27th December, 1st and 2nd January 2012. Trains will depart Bitton at 11.00am, 12.15pm, 1.30pm and 2.45pm.

Sunday Luncheon If you are looking for that special First Class dining experience, then look no further than the Avon Valley Railway's Steam 'n' Cuisine service. We aim to make your meal a memorable, marvellous and mouthwatering experience! Join us in our refurbished dining coaches, reserved only for Steam 'n' Cuisine patrons.

Bears picnic

It's a Great Day Out For Kids! Come and visit us on this special occasion. Children who bring their Teddy Bears will travel FREE of charge on the trains. There will also be a number of other activities to keep the children amused. Further details will be advertised here once they have been confirmed.
